Because they are solid state and do not have moving parts they require less battery power, will not skip during playback, and may be more resilient to hazards such as mechanical shock or fragmentation than hard disk-based players. Due to technological advances in flash memory, these originally low-capacity storage devices are now available commercially ranging up to 128 GB. Flash-based players: These are non-mechanical solid state devices that hold digital audio files on internal flash memory, removable flash memory cards or USB flash drive.Types ĭigital audio players are generally categorised by storage media: Portable DVD and BD players are still manufactured. Increasing sales of smartphones and tablet computers have led to a decline in sales of PMPs, leading to most devices being phased out, such as the iPod Touch on May 10, 2022, though certain flagship devices like the Sony Walkman are still in production. In 2008 video-enabled players would overtake audio-only players. In 2007, 210 million PMPs were sold worldwide, worth US$19.5 billion. In 2006, 20% of Americans owned a PMP, a figure strongly driven by the young more than half (54%) of American teens owned one, as did 30% of young adults aged 18 to 34. However the industry would eventually be defined by the popular Apple iPod. MP3-playing devices were mostly pioneered by South Korean startups, who by 2002 would control the majority of global sales. Some players also include radio tuners, voice recording and other features.ĭAPs appeared in the late 1990s following the creation of the MP3 codec in Germany. Generally speaking, they are portable, employing internal or replaceable batteries, equipped with a 3.5 mm headphone jack which can be used for headphones or to connect to a boombox, shelf stereo system, or connect to car audio and home stereos wired or via a wireless connection such as Bluetooth. The PMP term was introduced later for devices that had additional capabilities such as video playback. In contrast, analogue portable audio players play music from non-digital media that use analogue media, such as cassette tapes or vinyl records.ĭigital audio players (DAP) were often marketed as MP3 players even if they also supported other file formats and media types. The data is typically stored on a compact disc (CD), Digital Video Disc (DVD), Blu-ray Disc (BD), flash memory, microdrive, or hard drive most earlier PMPs used physical media, but modern players mostly use flash memory. You will most likely be asked to take antibiotic and anticoagulant while the drains are in place. Your drains will be left in a few days after the surgery to empty out any excess fluids. Make sure you take the specified time off work, so you can give your body adequate time to recover. First things first, take plenty of rest after the surgery. It is important to give your body enough time to heal after the surgery. Guideline to Recover Quickly After the Surgery Always consult with Dr Carmen prior to resuming any physical activity. Most patients can also resume exercise eight weeks after the surgery. 8 Weeks/2 Months Post SurgeryĪvoid taking baths and jumping into swimming pools for eight weeks post-surgery or till your incisions are fully healed. However, if your job is physically demanding, consult Dr Carmen’s team before resuming work. Most patients can go back to work after a month marker. It prevents any complications and takes care of any unforeseeable risks. Never skip on those even if your recovery is going great. Visit Dr Carmen for follow-up appointments to ensure everything is running smoothly. You can also use over-the-counter stool softeners to help you. Eat fibre rich meals to avoid constipation. One Month After SurgeryĬonstipation is very common around the one-month marker. This is the time to introduce light walking into your routine. Opt for sponge baths or use a chair while showering for the first two weeks post-surgery.Īfter two weeks, you will be able to walk straight. Don’t panic, and let your body heal at its own natural pace.īathing is also a struggle for the first week or two. You will experience scarring after the surgery that will take time to fade away. You can resume driving after two weeks and slowly ease yourself into daily chores. Do not resume physical activity until Dr Carmen gives you permission. If you have a lot of responsibilities around the house, it is wise to arrange for some house help for a couple of months post-surgery. It is advised to take a month of work for optimal rest and recovery. Week 1-2 After Surgeryĭuring the first two weeks, avoid standing for longer durations, lifting heavy objects and excessive movement. Make sure to take the pain killers prescribed by Dr Carmen on time. It is common to feel sore in the stomach area, which will be accompanied by pain. It is advised to walk in a hunched-over position for a week or two. Tightness around the tummy area is very common during the initial few weeks. You also need to arrange for someone to help you around the house for the first few days as you will have limited mobility. Most likely, you will have drainage tubes that will drain the fluid from your tummy. You will need someone to drive you home so arrange for it in advance as you won’t be able to do it yourself. A healthcare professional will monitor and check your incision, and you will usually be allowed to go home the day after surgery. Surgical drains will usually be removed before leaving hospital.ĭuring your time in hospital, Dr Carmen will guide you regarding the recovery time, incision care and when to resume work, activity etc. Immediately after the surgery, you will be taken into a recovery room. Wear your Support Garments – Dr Carmen firmly believes in fitted shapewear post-surgery and is insistent that it is worn for the first 6 months post op, both night and day.Walks can be daily or even twice daily, again as tolerated, this will also depend on how sore or swollen you feel. Distance should be no longer that 15 minutes unless advised by the clinic. Gentle short walks can commence 7 days post op, as tolerated.Often due to several factors – pain or stiffness, use of strong painkillers, lack of concentration and strength. Driving is discouraged for up to 3 weeks post-surgery.Scar minimisation tapes encouraged for 2 – 4 months then change to silicone cream or tape.Showers should always be brief and warm (but not hot). Daily showering is OK during the hospital stay once the drain tubes have been removed.Swelling is very normal this will cause difficulty with muscle movements and general stiffness of gait.Post-surgery is always a time for investing in your own healing, this will give you a faster and more effective result – less swelling or pain, better movement, and more effective scar reduction. Lobi country Ī ceramic beer-brewing pot made and used by the Lobi people, Burkina Faso. According to Lobi legend, the spirits of the deceased must return across the river to rejoin their honorable ancestors in the ancient world. The Lobi crossed the Mounhoun centuries ago from east to west and settled in the lands and brought with them deep animist beliefs and superstition. In myth, it symbolizes a dividing line between this world and the next. In terms of migration history, it marks an escape from slave raiders in present-day Ghana. The Mouhoun River (also known as the Black Volta) is important to Lobi peoples for many reasons. The name Lobi originates from two Lobiri words: lou (forest) and bi (children), meaning literally, "children of the forest". They are intermediaries with Thangba Yu, the remote Creator God. Thila are ambivalent beings that require regular offerings-via sacrifice-in exchange for a wide range of protective and benevolent actions. They achieve this specifically through regular interaction with spirits called thila, which inhabit a wide range of natural areas and man-made objects, such as bateba, or anthropomorphic shrine figures that are now also well recognized in the art world. Largely through the use of village and personal shrines, they also share animist beliefs in order to maintain a productive relationship with the spiritual world. Historically, Lobi warriors used poisoned arrows to fend off attackers (including French colonists). Most are single-story, and rarely include more than a few small, strategically placed holes to allow light in and to allow inhabitants to view the exterior surrounds. Many Lobi houses also share an architectural style, which consists of an earthen compound with walls made from horizontal courses. In terms of kinship, descent is bilineal. Traditions vary among the groups, but some share a common sense of identity through participation in an initiation ceremony called joro (or dyoro, which takes place every seven years. Other groups are commonly referred to as "acephalous," which is misleading, but is meant to signal the absence of centralized political authority. It is important to recognize that among them, only the Gan belong to a politically centralized, and royal, society. Lobi is a blanket term that refers to several closely related ethnic groups that comprise roughly 7% of the Burkinabe population, including the main Lobi proper, Birifor, Dagara, Dorossy, Dyan (aka Jãa), Gan and Tenbo/Loron (aka Lorhon, Teese, Teguessie and Thuuna). Markings on the probe allow users to know the insertion depth to obtain better accuracy when traversing a duct. In order to prevent damage to the sensing element, the AP2 probe has a protective sleeve that slides over the sensor when it is not in use. The Series AP2 wirelessly measures air velocity, air flow, and temperature when combined with the Universal Handheld, Model UHH2, or a mobile device using the Mobile Meter® Software Test Instrument App. This test will give you six points of test data across the product's range to ensure that the unit is still operating at its original accuracy.ĭwyer offers several hot-wire anemometers, including the Thermo-Anemometer Probe, Series AP2, and the Thermo-Anemometer Test Instrument, Model 471B. You may also wish to send these units back for a NIST traceable calibration annually. The best way to avoid these issues would be to follow the upkeep mentioned above. This can lead to forcing fans to work overtime, wasting energy, or leaving fans off when they need to running. If the device you are using is suffering from poor upkeep or has been damaged by being implemented into improper environments, then there is no way to ensure that these rooms are being kept in the proper state. If this schedule is disregarded, the device will be in need of repair and calibration. These devices must be cleaned on a regular schedule to retain the inherent accuracies stated on the specifications data sheet. If a particulate was to hit this wire at a high velocity, the device could take damage and no longer read properly, causing instability within the clean rooms being monitored. This may put patients at risk, and cost your company in energy consumption.Īdditionally, while hot-wire anemometers have a high initial accuracy, this accuracy is not very stable over time. It is important to use these products only in proper environments. This wire picks up readings by sending a small signal through itself to measure the dissipation of that signal. Hot-wire anemometers utilize a small open tipped probe with a thin wire going across the opening. These applications require a positive pressure in operating rooms where bacteria cannot be allowed to enter, or a negative pressure in a quarantine environment to ensure that all bacteria will stay within the room. Hospitals: The Hot-Wired Anemometers That Keep Them Running Properly Hot-wire anemometers are often used in a hospital environment to measure and maintain room pressurization/de-pressurization. Should you feel the need for more of these effects, you can purchase additional sets from the Movavi online store, and there’s a handy button in each section for you to do just that.Īlthough the interface looks nice and polished there are some odd inconsistencies: for instance you can select the Stabilisation tool (which doesn’t work very well) either by double-clicking on a clip and finding it in the list of tools, or via the sidebar of icons on the left. It’s also easy to retime those animations to fit your edit. Many of those titles are animated, helping you create fancy effects in seconds. You can change their position on the screen, alter the text, font, colour and size, all by selecting which section you’d like to change in the interface’s main Preview pane. Titles work in the same way, but you can also easily customise them. Text presets are easy to use and very customisable. This is not acceptable for precision work. Repeat this two or three times, and you’ll see the hundredth of a second value is different each time even though you revisit the same frame over and over again. Try this yourself: move the Timeline’s playhead forward one frame, then make it go back one frame. To make matters worse, this division isn’t consistent. The developers had an extremely puzzling decision to not breakdown the timecode by frames, but rather by hundredths of a second. In order to help you create frame-accurate edits, MVE allows you to navigate your work on a frame by frame basis using keyboard shortcuts, although those that are included could be simplified, and there sadly isn’t enough of them. You can find all this and more in the clip’s Tools section. There is no obvious keyframing process but that’s because a lot of effects you would animate are actually automated in MVE, like fading in or out, or panning and zooming. These actions are non-destructive and dragging a clip’s edges outwards will restore the previously cut segment. Alternatively, you can click on a clip to select it, move the playhead over the desired area and click on the Split button (the one shaped like a pair of scissors). This does not apply to any other layers above it.Įditing clips is as you’d expect: you can trim their In or Out points by clicking and dragging their edges inwards. This process works when reordering clips on the first, and primary, layer. In a manner similar to Final Cut Pro X’s magnetic timeline, deleting clips will shunt any others on its right to the left to close the gap between all remaining clips. It’s however very easy to move clips around the timeline. |
